Dennica is a contemporary reimagining of the first Slovak magazine for women, originally founded by Slovak writer and feminist pioneer Terezia Vansová. Conceived as a remake project, the publication shows what could a Dennica anniversary book look like today.

When first published at the turn of the 20th century, Dennica emerged during a period in which women were systematically marginalized from public, intellectual, and political life. Access to education, authorship, and participation in cultural discourse remained limited, while women’s labor, both domestic and professional, was frequently rendered invisible or undervalued. Within this context, Dennica became a rare and important space for women’s voices, education, literature, and social engagement.

This remake project reinterprets the publication through a contemporary lens, preserving its emancipatory spirit while shifting its focus toward culture, art, women’s empowerment, and the visibility of women workers. Particular attention is given to the lived realities of women whose contributions have historically remained peripheral or overlooked. By foregrounding labor, care, and creative agency, the project reflects on the structures that continue to shape women’s experiences today.
